Take a Legislative Walk in Karen’s Shoes

Hump day at the REALTORS® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo!

Time to try out the fashionable yet sensible new shoes. Pedometer reset…let’s go!

Karen 1Headed from the Carlyle Suites Hotel to the Washington Hilton to catch the 6:30am shuttle to ensure a great seat for the day’s first session, the Federal Priority Issues Briefing. Our NAR staff, led by Jerry Giovaniello, prepped us with talking points and stats, empowering us for our hill visits.

…Then we are off to explore the REALTORS® Trade Show…toured the massive venue, visited the NARbooth (which is actually more like a little city) checked out some new technology, enjoyed the foot massage chairs, had a quick breakfast/lunch.

Karen 5…Then headed to Capitol Hill, where our IAR government affairs directors scheduled meetings with my representatives.

Karen 6…Crisscrossed from the Longworth to Rayburn buildings a couple times meeting with representatives Kinzinger, Foster, and Kelly and ended the day hiking / running over to the Dirksen building for a meeting with Senator Kirk.

Karen 4…We shared our concerns on tax extenders, 1031 exchange, GSE reform, tax reform and the implementation closing changes coming August 1st.

…Almost 10 hours after the day began, cab time, then off to the IAR reception, then dinner with friends. After a long and productive day, my step count was just over 20,000 and it was time to call it a night.

Karen 2…But the day couldn’t end without drama. While made it through hump day with no blisters and just a little worse for the wear, our hotel elevator did not. We got stuck on the 7th floor, and had the joy of being pried out, a first for us! We made it out fine, enjoyed a glass of wine and called it a night, ready to do it all again today!
