The May 2018 NAR Board of Directors Meet in Washington, D.C.

Well… here we are already… at the end of this long week, we reach the pinnacle and conclusion of this year’s Legislative Meetings in Washington, D.C.

After hearing musically from our very own “REALTOR® Ensemble,” the call to order by President Elizabeth Mendenhall, and the Pledge of Allegiance and Inspiration.

The first order of business was to have an election for the 2019 NAR First Vice-President. We were very fortunate to have two such fine and professional candidates in Sherri Meadow from Florida and Charles Oppler from New Jersey. Charles was successful by a 5 vote swing. Our association will be in excellent hands in 2019 with Charles joining the leadership team as FVP along with Pres.-Elect Vince Malta, NAR Treasurer John Flor, President John Smaby, and the 13 regional vice-presidents who were also elected for 2019.

The Board proceeded business including approvals of proposed amendments to the bylaws of the Residential Real Estate Council and the Women’s Council of REALTORS®’ consent agenda.

CEO Bob Goldberg reported on his first 10 months, including on the “Day in the Life of a REALTOR®” campaign, and Distinguished Service Award (DSA) Committee Chair Bruce Aydt announced the 94rd & 95th recipients.

2018 Treasurer Tom Riley presented the Finance Committee’s nine motions, including the $30 proposed dues increase for the 2019 cycle to move the S.M.A.R.T. Initiatives forward.

The chairs of the committees presented motions, and all the motions were approved.

Reports were given by RPR COO Jeff Young; Realtor.com® and Move, Inc. EVP, Luke Glass; and NAR VP of Government Affairs, Kenny Parcell.

We then celebrated all of our 2018 RPAC Fundraising year-to-date with data provided by NAR RPAC Fundraising Liaison Tray Bates on how most of our National Goals were already well beyond 50%.  Given we are only through April, 30th with our reported receipts, we are looking to be on track, “and then some”!

Lastly, 2019 President John Smaby introduced his incoming committee liaisons and elected officers prior to adjournment.

The BOD will meet next on 11/05/18 in Boston, MA!
