Work Goes on After the Board Meeting

Last year, 2017 Arizona REALTORS® President Paula Monthofer started a program called Totes For Hope. Chances are you’ve seen the blue and white bags. The goal is to collect toiletries from our rooms, package them into care bags and get them distributed to the area homeless. Just because Paula’s year as President ended, doesn’t mean she isn’t out there continuing her amazing program.

This year, after the BoD meeting on Saturday, she gathered up the leftover snacks and the donations of shampoos, soaps and more…and headed out to DuPont Circle with a small band of merry REALTORS® to do some good.

To quote Paula:
“It took Joe and I a few circles around DuPont to release the bags. Because of this, we came back around to people whom we had already given bags. Usually, I just give and go. This time I got to see what happens 10 minutes after you give someone a bag of food.

People whose gaunt tired faces had reached out with shaking hands to over-eagerly take a bag from us, were sharing. Sharing with other homeless, sharing with the squirrels, sharing with other people on the bench. Their moods shifted from one of longing to one of joy through becoming a giver. They all seemed taller somehow, took up more space, and a few had even gained the capacity to look me in the eye and smile on our second round.

We have so many appetites which need nourishing aside from hunger. It refueled my soul to watch people filling themselves full of the gift of giving to others. #sated “

When we say “More Than Houses” in Arizona, we mean it. We bring it with us wherever we go. It’s why we do what we do at the Legislative Meetings, at the November meetings and all year long – in our small towns to our metros.
