Now that I’m back to my day to day REALTOR® life, I’ve had some time to reflect on the good work our members did in DC. The week was jam-packed with visits to our elected official on Capitol Hill to share our talking points. We were there to support strong net neutrality protections; equal housing opportunities for the LGBTQ community who continue to face discrimination in housing, as well as tax policies under the new code; and urging long-term authorization of the National Flood Insurance Program. We made some great strides with our legislators, but our work is never done when it comes to protecting private rights for our clients and colleagues.
The week continued with incredible presentations to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act, informative panels on the budget including the anticipated dues increase, as well as opportunities to hear from candidates for 2019 Treasurer and First Vice President of the National Association of REALTORS®. It’s always so empowering to see my friends and colleagues from around the country giving their time and talent at the highest levels of our association.
Some of the biggest highlights for me was the time I got to spend with my Women’s Council family members. I get so much energy from these amazing leaders who share their experiences and best practices with open hearts and open minds. Our members are engaged, and they are making a huge impact on our industry. I am truly honored to serve alongside these successful REALTORS® who advance women as professionals and leaders in business, the industry and the communities we serve.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my experiences with you during our legislative meetings. I hope my journey’s have inspired at least one more member to get involved in their associations and to join us in our fight to protect homeownership for future generations.
